Tomatoes are a native fruit of the Americas and remain one of the most popular garden fruits for sandwiches and salads. Though originating in South America, there is little evidence that tomatoes were cultivated for edible use until the Spanish conquest of the area in the 15th and 16th centuries.

  • August 2009 (TBD) - Tomato Art Fest  Coined by Budget Travel Magazine as “Nashville’s version of New York’s East Village,” this FREE, costume-friendly event provides a fun-filled day for thousands. The Tomato Art Fest has steadily drawn larger crowds with each year that passes. Last year, an estimated 10,000 people came to celebrate this beloved fruit/vegetable and enjoy the day’s festivities. The Tomato Art Fest was founded by Meg and Bret MacFadyen of East Nashville's Art and Invention Gallery Having five to six shows annually, including the Tomato Art Show in August and Holiday Artisan Show in December, Art & Invention Gallery focuses on inventiveness in fine art, craft and original furniture. Adult and Children Workshops are held throughout the year as an outlet for creative energy.


  • September 12, 2009 - The 13th Annual Kendall-Jackson Heirloom Tomato Festival, 11am - 4pm.  More than 170 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in every size, shape and color imaginable will be picked fresh from our own Culinary Gardens and sampled on a beautiful Wine Country afternoon. The festival, which raises money for the School Garden Network of Sonoma County, is held on the lawn and in the walnut grove behind the Chateau at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center. Attendees experience the food of gourmet food purveyors, a Food & Wine magazine Best New Chef's Challenge, wine education seminars, a tomato growing contest, garden tours and live entertainment. All paired with Kendall-Jackson wines
